
New employees
Grace Sobiech joined the League of Minnesota Cities on July 22 as an administrative assistant. Prior to joining the League, Sobiech served as a thrive program coordinator at Community Thread, where she coordinated volunteers and member activities, managed billing and administrative reports, and supported the membership renewal process. She also gained valuable experience as an operations intern at the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
Trent Sylvester joined the League of Minnesota Cities on July 14 as facilities engineer. Prior to joining the League, he worked at Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE, where he performed preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. He also served as a building maintenance technician for Fraser, supporting both residential and commercial properties.
Annabelle Vang joined the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust on June 30 as a policy services technician. Vang graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a major in sociology and minor in child development and family services. She has a background in education and health care, and most recently served as a preschool teacher at Prodeo Academy.
Alicia Thoj rejoined the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust on June 2 as a senior workers’ compensation claims examiner. She previously worked for LMCIT from 2013 to 2020 before joining the City of St. Paul as a labor standards investigator, where she led investigations into earned sick and safe time, minimum wage, and wage theft.
John McCarthy joined the League of Minnesota Cities as chief financial officer on June 2. He comes to the League from the City of St. Paul, where he served as chief financial officer since 2019. McCarthy previously held roles with the city as budget director beginning in 2017 and chief budget analyst starting in 2013. In his role at the League, McCarthy will provide strategic oversight of the finance and facilities management departments. As a key member of the Leadership Team, he will help guide the development of organizational budgets, long-term operational and capital plans, and ensure the integrity of internal control systems.
